Vibe Coding

FrontierTechniques and Architectures

Vibe coding is building software mainly by prompting an AI code generator in natural language rather than writing the source code by hand. The engineer describes what the application should do and reviews what comes back. It makes prototyping dramatically faster, and it makes it easy to ship code that nobody on the team fully understands.

In practice

Vibe coding surfaces in engineering productivity audits and code maintenance reviews, and the risk is what it bypasses: formal code review, security testing, and any record of why the code is the way it is. Ask an engineering team where vibe-coded work is permitted, whether it reaches production, and who owns the resulting codebase once the person who prompted it leaves.
