Generative AI (GenAI)
Also called: GenAI
Generative AI is the class of models, large language models among them, trained to create new content such as text, code or images by predicting sequence probabilities. It is highly effective at synthesising unstructured data and inherently unreliable for exact mathematics, because it produces the most probable continuation rather than calculating a result.
In practice
Generative AI changes the cost of producing a draft, not the cost of being right, so the value shows up where a person already reviews the output: proposals, first-pass code, marketing copy, summaries of long documents. Point it at work where a wrong answer is cheap to spot, and keep it away from anything that has to be arithmetically exact.
